Questions

What is a dotLottie file?

A .lottie file is a Lottie animation in a zip, with its images next to it. The same animation takes less space, which helps pages load faster.

Does converting change my animation?

No. The animation data stays the same, expressions included. Only the packaging changes. Going from .lottie to JSON puts any images back inside the JSON.

Which players play .lottie files?

The dotLottie players for the web, iOS, Android and React play .lottie files. The classic lottie-web player and many plugins still need plain JSON, so keep both if you are not sure.

What do Loop and Autoplay do?

They are saved in the .lottie file as playback settings. Players that read them start the animation on their own and repeat it.

Should images be separate files?

Keeping images inside the JSON works with the most players. Separate image files make the animation data smaller and let players load the images on their own.

My .lottie file has several animations. What happens?

Each animation becomes its own JSON file, with its own download button.

What about themes and state machines?

Newer .lottie files can hold colour themes and interactive state machines. Plain JSON has no place for them, so they are left out when you convert to JSON.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Converting happens in your browser, on your device. Your files never leave it.
