Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The viewer runs in your browser. Your file is read on your device and is never sent anywhere.
What is a Lottie file?
A Lottie is an animation saved as data in a JSON file. Websites and apps play it with a small player, so it stays sharp at any size and is often much lighter than a video or GIF. Most Lottie files are made in After Effects with the Bodymovin plugin, or in tools like Mosso.
What is the difference between .json and .lottie?
A .lottie file, also called dotLottie, is a Lottie zipped up with its images. It holds the same animation in a smaller file. This viewer opens both, and the dotLottie converter turns one into the other.
Why does it look different from After Effects?
Lottie players cover most After Effects features, but not all. Expressions, many effects, layer styles and 3D don't come across. The check list shows which of these your file uses.
Why were expressions removed?
Expressions are small scripts inside a Lottie. Running scripts from a file you found online isn't safe, so this viewer never runs them. The iOS and Android players don't run them either, so the preview is close to what phones show.
Why does my text look wrong?
Text layers need their fonts. When a player can't find the font, it uses a system font instead, and the words shift. Turn the text into shapes before you export and it looks the same everywhere.
Can I turn it into a GIF or a video?
Yes. Use Lottie to GIF or Lottie to MP4. Both run in your browser too.
Can I make my own Lottie files?
Yes. Mosso is an app for making Lottie animations: start from a blank canvas or a library animation, add your words, logo and colours, animate them, and export Lottie, dotLottie, GIF or MP4. To change the file you opened here, press Edit it in Mosso.
